Winifred (Fairweather) August
April 26th, 1925 – April 6th, 2018
With family by her side Winifred “Winnie” passed away peacefully on Friday April 6th at Ohio Living Breckenridge Village in Willoughby, Ohio. Winnie’s final days were spent surrounded by loving family members of near and far.
Born in Lachine, Quebec, Canada to Frederick and Annie Fairweather; Winnie moved as a young child with her family to Cleveland and became a naturalized citizen. Winnie attended John Hay High School graduating in 1943. After graduation Winnie served as a business and legal secretary. Before too long, Winnie met her future husband, Daniel August, exchanging vows on December 3rd, 1949.
Winnie had a kind heart and youthful spirit unmistakeable to all of the lives she touched. Her care and consideration of others was a constant thread throughout her life.
Winnie’s love for nature was apparent in her enjoyment of gardening, bird watching, animals, and the outdoors. She collected and shared stories of journeys along the Appalachian Trail as well as those to the the greater west including Moab, Utah. The National Parks were always a treat for Winnie – of particular were her trips to Grand Teton and Yellowstone. Closer to home one could find Winnie enjoying hikes and horseback rides through the Cleveland Metroparks.
Throughout her life Winnie was devoted to her family, who she loved most of all. She is survived by her daughter Peggy Cline, grandchildren Christine (Mark) Vasko, Bryan Cline, and Robert (Ame) Cline along with two great grandchildren Avery and Landon Cline. Private memorial for immediate family to be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Legacy Fund: Cleveland Metroparks and mail to: Cleveland Metroparks Development 4101 Fulton Parkway Cleveland, OH 44144. For more information, please call 216.635.3261
