Thomas Edwards

April 11, 1948 — November 4, 2023

Cleveland

Thomas Kevin Edwards born on April 11, 1948, Thomas (Tom, aka, “Doc”), passed away on November 4, 2023. Tom grew up on West Boulevard on Cleveland’s near west side, and attended St. Rose grade school, where he made life-long friends. Following high school, he went through the apprenticeship program to become a union plumber with Local 55, then moved to California, where he worked as a pipefitter on several projects and enjoyed years of life in the sunshine. Along the way he took rambling road trips to Central and South America that could only be described as true adventures. Tom loved sports, especially playing and watching baseball, where he was a talented first baseman. His love of the game persisted past his playing days with an interest in the history of the sport.

His final home was with the residents and staff at Mayfield Heights Healthcare, where he enjoyed every activity offered, knew everyone’s name and was embraced by fellow residents and staff. His daily part time “job” included reading the daily chronicle, while he used the rest of his time playing cards and entertaining everyone with random trivia.

Tom was predeceased by his parents, Kelly & Esther Edwards, his Aunt Olive McKenna, and nephew Kevin Thomas Fielding.

Tom is survived by his loving sister, Sheila Fielding (Kevin deceased), his nieces Karen Nejedlik (Dave), Julie Fielding & Jennifer Theis, along with grand nieces and nephews: Olivia, Tess, Jamie, Izzi, Kevin, Maddie (always referred to as Madeline Hazel by Tom), Laney & Quinn.

In addition to his family, Tom enjoyed the loving friendship of Tom (since kindergarten) and Paula Keating. The pair of Toms were always entertaining, providing an historical accounting of the shenanigans they perpetrated over the years. Together, Tom and Paula went beyond the typical bonds of friendship as they assisted Tom in living independently for several years. Tom, and his quick wit, dry sense of humor, and exceptionally kind personality will be missed by all.

Private interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Condolences and special memories of Tom can be shared with his loved ones online at www.heritagecremationsociety.com
