Sally Akers

Sally Akers, born Sarah Avalyn Slaughter on January 20, 1934, departed this realm for a new adventure on Sunday, May 12, 2024.  She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Beulah Slaughter, brothers Jack (Peggy) and Dale (Gwen), and much-admired sister, Phyllis (Richard).  She leaves behind her baby brother Richard (Joyce), son Donald Akers II, daughter Peggy (William), granddaughters Sarah (Thomas) and Lisa, grandsons Nicholas (Megan) and Brandon, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
 
Sally retired from AFSCME AFL-CIO after 30 years of service and worked another 8 years with Summit County Environmental Services.  She was a lifetime member and past president of VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 3383 and member of the Fernleaf Chapter of the Eastern Star.


Sally was an avid traveler with the Prime Timers Firestone Park chapter.  She loved London, Paris, and Las Vegas and made trips to China, Hawaii, and Eastern Europe.


Sally has been cremated and there will be a private burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider planting a tree in her honor. Condolences and special memories of Sally can be shared with her family online at www.heritagecremationsociety.com
