Ruth A. (Smith) Surbey

Ruth A. (Smith) Surbey of Jackson Township, Ohio passed away July 8, 2018 at the age of 91.  She was born to John Russell and Bessie (Nevel) Smith of Canal Fulton on July 24, 1926. Ruth married Glenn D. Surbey in 1945 and from that union four children were born; Nancy E. Mitchell, G. Dale (Helen), Candice A. Bryson (Larry) and Gregory D. (Terri). Ruth leaves two sisters, Carolyn Witsaman and Mary Jane Wearstler (Richard); one niece, three nephews and granddaughters, Kristin Hillmer (Joel), Brianne Hillmer, Amber Surbey and Kelsey Surbey.

Upon retirement in 1985 Glenn and Ruth moved to Hawaii where they built a home on the Big Island of Hawaii. Glenn passed in 1986 and Ruth returned to Ohio in 2003.

The family wishes to thank the staff of The Laurels of Massillon and Aultman Compassionate Care Center for their excellent care of Ruth. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Stark County Humane Society in memory of Ruth and her love of dogs or to a charity of your choice.

In keeping with Ruth’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a service Celebrating her life will be held Saturday July 21, 2018 at 10:30 am at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens, 5001 Everhard Rd N.W. in North Canton. A light luncheon will follow at La Pizzeria, 3656 Dressler Rd in Canton. Condolences can be shared with the family at
