Robert Vogley

August 11, 1951 — January 6, 2024

Canton

Robert Wayne Vogley peacefully passed away on January 6, 2024 after an extended illness. Bob was born on August 11, 1951 in Canton, Ohio.  He spent his childhood; hunting and fishing in the Atwood Lake area. Bob graduated from Canton South High School in 1969 and then went on to work at The Hoover Company until retirement. He was a hard worker, a great friend, a loving husband, father, uncle and Pa. Bob enjoyed golfing, coin-collecting, watching OSU football, attending basketball games and spending time with his family. Bob managed Type 1 Diabetes for most of his adult life and was a cancer survivor for over 24 years. Bob was a proud, stubborn and feisty man but despite numerous health issues he was determined to carry on. Many friends have said he had the heart of a lion.

Bob was a skilled and avid golfer – considered to be one of the best amateur golfers in Northeast Ohio during the 1980’s and 1990’s. He was part of the 2nd induction class of the Stark County Amateur Golf Association in 2011, which shows the respect many of his peers had for his ability. To name just a few of his golfing accomplishments, he won the 1983 Ohio State Public Links Golf Amateur Championship and a 2-time Stark County Amateur Champion in 1990 and 1995. He qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship in 1986 at Shoal Creek CC and in 1989 at Merion CC.

Bob was preceded in death by his father, Charles Wayne Vogley and followed in death by his mother, Donna Mae Vogley,  just 2 days after his passing.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Joanne (Stevens) Vogley; sister, Ledair (Marty) Allen; son, Michael (Lisa) Vogley; stepdaughter, Angela (Jim) Perez; four grandchildren, Lia, Ali, Connor and Aaron; and many nieces and nephews.

Per Bob’s wishes he will be cremated, and no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society or First Tee of Canton. There will be a Celebration of Life attended by family and close friends at a later date. Condolences may be shared with Bob’s family online at www.heritagecremationsociety.com
