Robert J. Fairless

Robert J. Fairless – age 90 of Canton, Ohio passed away on Monday, March 6, 2023. He was born in Canton on December 23, 1932 to the late Joseph and Mary (Morrison) Fairless.

He was a graduate of Lincoln High School (1950), Kent State University (1954) and The Ohio State School of Law (1956). Married to Betty Bachtel in 1952 with whom they recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Robert was an attorney working his entire career in the Stark County area. He worked for Republic Steel Corporation, Teledyne Monarch Rubber and finished his career with Crown Cork and Seal in Massillon (Central States Can Company). He gave selflessly his time to the community, sitting on and chairing various area service boards and organizations. He was an active member of Church of the Savior and Church of the Lakes. He most of all loved his family and especially his time with his family on Hilton Head Island where many special family memories were made. He and wife, Betty, were long-time members of Brookside Country Club. He was a beloved and faithful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved golf and tennis and was very opposed to inactivity. He truly led a happy and fulfilled life and he will be missed.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Kathleen (John) Koteff. He is survived by his daughter, Cathy (Guy) Suffecool; sons, Jeff (Lorri), and Mike (Julie); grandchildren, Christy, Jarrod, Heather, Brandon, Nicole, Michael, Abby and Stephen; several great-grandchildren.

It was with sadness that I read Bob’s obituary today. I graduated from Lincoln High School with him and worked with him on many class reunions. Please accept my most sincere sympathy.

Betty, I treasure all the memories of the times that Don and I, and later Donna Dayton and I played a fierce game of Trivial Pursuit together. I will never forget that you took me to the Atwood Dam to scatter Don’s ashes in the lake that he loved to sail in. Even though I have moved to Mansfield, I think of you and the fun we had together, remember when Bob said you had to get younger friends when I got hot flashes playing cards one summer evenings.
