Richard ‘Dick’ Bear

Richard ‘Dick’ Bear, age 88, of Medina, Ohio passed away peacefully October 22, 2022. He was born August 1, 1934 in Dover, Ohio to the late Richey Francis and Nellie Marie (Thompson) Bear. He is a graduate of Dover High School class of 1952. Dick served in the US Navy from 1955 to 1957. He later owned the Bear’s Marathon at Front and Bailey in Cuyahoga Falls and was owner and CEO of Mediscus Group in Akron. Dick enjoyed birding, hiking, volunteering (Habitat for Humanity and Pensacola National Aviation Naval Museum Restoration Department), sports (especially OSU), NASCAR and collecting classic cars.

In addition to his parents Dick is predeceased by his first wife, Barbara (Knight) Bear (1996) and grandson, Adam Richard Bear (2017).

Survived by his wife, Sandra Bear; children, Jeffrey Bear of Killbuck, OH, Jody (Terry) Petitt of Medina, OH, Christie (Joe) Valent of Bath, OH, and Matt (Jen) Brown of Orlando, Florida; grandchildren, Jessica Pigeon, Syracuse NY, Jennifer (Matt) Lamp of Charleston, SC, Kevin Bear of Norton, OH, Connor Bear of Uniontown, OH, Lauren Valent of Bath, OH, Haley Brown of Orlando, FL, Sebastian Zabala of Orlando, FL; great-grandchildren, Ellen Pigeon of NY, Walter Pigeon of NY, Matthew Lamp of SC, Aria Lamp of SC, Adalynn Bear of  Uniontown, OH, and Andy Bear of Killbuck, OH; siblings, Linda (Dorsey) Gilliam, Sue Ellen (Paul) Hoffman and Julie (Ron) Christman, and Dr. Thomas F (Karen) Bear.

Dick will be interred at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Services will be held November 3, 2022 at Cox-McNulty Funeral Home 1376 High Street, Wadsworth, OH. 44281 visitation 10:00 – 11:00a.m. and Funeral Service to start at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery 10175 Rawiga Road Seville, OH. 44273 at 1:15 p.m.  (Arrive 15 – 20 min early).
