Myra “Ruth” Bender

Ruth (Malpass) Bender, age 90, grew her wings and her faith in God’s love and protection throughout her life. Her oldest son Rick and youngest daughter Jackie were lovingly present with her while the rest of us prayed and supported her by phone calls and visits from those who loved her in Ohio, North Carolina, Nevada and British Columbia, Canada.

Ruth knew March 19th was the Catholic Feast day of Saint Joseph, the patron saint of a peaceful death. God answered her prayerful request to die on the same day that He had heard her young daughter Rose’s request 52 years earlier.

Throughout the last ten years, Mom always said that whether she stayed here on earth a little longer or went on to heaven, she would be held in the arms of those she loved either way. She was not afraid and would never be alone. We are sure she was welcomed into heaven with waves of love, lots of laughter, and many questions about why it took her so long.

Ruth was born to Arthur and Cecelia Malpass on September 30th, 1929, in New Bern, North Carolina. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, her daughter Rose, her husband Richard (Bud), and her four sisters Edna, Agnes, Cecilia and Nina.

Ruth is survived by her children who deeply loved and appreciated all she did for them throughout the years: Rick (Rita) Terry (Len) Jackie (Mitch) Eddie (Gina) Bobby, Joey (Angie) her cherished brother-in-law Don (Phyllis), her adoring grandchildren, many loved great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, as well as countless extended family members and friends.

Ruth’s family would like to thank all the staff that so lovingly cared for her during the past eight months at Holy Family Hospice in Parma, Ohio. We are so grateful for each and every one of you and ask God to richly bless you today and always. The memories from her days at Holy Family and the family celebrations with her in the solarium will stay as precious memories in our hearts.

We would also like to thank the staff and residents at Emerald Village Senior Living in North Olmsted, Ohio. She dearly loved all the caring staff and friends she made throughout the four years she was a resident.
