Poleda Leslie Moodie

Ms. Poleda Leslie Moodie (nee-Mack), 72, passed away on Friday August 12, 2022.

She was peacefully resting at Suburban Rehabilitation center in North Randall, prior to departing. Ms. Moodie was born September 6, 1949, in Cleveland, Ohio.

She was born to Herbert Lester Mack and Nanelle Fredean Mack (nee-Wallace). Herbert and Nell met in Junior High in Cleveland. They stayed friends until he returned from the Navy, when they married in 1948. They had 2 children, Poleda and Lester Mack.

Poleda graduated from John F. Kennedy in 1967 and met her future husband Fredrick (FKA Don-El) Moodie in the winter of 1968. They wed in 1969 and had two children, Damond and Danielle Moodie.

In the early 1980’s, Poleda became attracted to a career in the medical world, when she discovered the new position of Physician’s Assistant. It required a great deal of study and sacrifice, but her perseverance rewarded with a long career in the field. She started working as a PA in ’83 or ’84 and retired just a couple of years ago. She worked for many hospitals in the Cleveland area – Boothe Memorial, Huron Road. Fairview, Southpointe, and finally ended her career at the famed Cleveland Clinic. Her preference was for working in the operating room, was expertly skilled and often requested by many doctors due to her ability to work long cases.

In 2005, her first grandchild celebrated her first birthday on the West Coast in Oakland, CA. She couldn’t bear the thought of not being an involved grandparent, so she decided to do something daring by becoming a flight attendant. She figured that the flight benefits would afford her the ability to be present in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives for many years to come. It was something that she had always wanted to do because of the travel, opportunities to meet and talk to people, and to be in charge. She worked for Express Jet, Continental, and eventually United Airlines. She also served on the flight attendants union and as a medical emergency liaison for the airlines.

Poleda also loved her church, St. Paul’s in Cleveland Hts., serving on the Alter Guild, Daughters of the King, organizing the Fairhill Christmas Gift Program (for children being raised by their Grandparents), and serving as vice president of the Union of Black Episcopalians.

Later in life she took up ushering at Severance Hall. She was always so proud of all of the great music and performances that she got to hear and witness.

She is survived by her son and daughter Damond Moodie and Danielle Westbrook, her grandchildren: Talei, Tiko, and Venina Moodie and Abidan Westbrook, and her former husband Fredrick Moodie; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Nanelle Mack and her brother Lester Mack.
