Martha Lynn Dorney, 80, of Youngstown, passed away peacefully at Hospice House in Poland, Ohio on Wednesday afternoon, May 10, 2023, surrounded by her family.


Martha Lynn, affectionately known as “Marti” was born January 13, 1943, in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter of the late Paul and Martha (Galvin) Birkholtz and was a lifelong area resident.


Martha Lynn was a 1961 graduate of Ursuline High School and a member of St. Brendan Church, Youngstown. She was proud to have been employed at General Fireproofing (GF), Youngstown City Hall and finally retiring after working many years at West Side Merchants.


Martha Lynn was a proud homemaker and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She had a passion for animals and loved donating her time at the local animal shelter and caring for her own dogs Barney & Armani. She will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends for being a devoted and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.


Martha Lynn leaves behind her beloved husband of over 54 years, James G. Dorney, whom she married October 8, 1969; three children, Kristen (Brian) Perrico of Henderson Nevada; Michael (Jessica) Dorney of Salem, Ohio and Susan Dorney of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren, Carter Perrico, Dominic Perrico, Giuliana Dorney, Gage Dorney and Audrey Dorney. Her sister and best friend Mary Lou (Robert) Slafka along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.


A private celebration of life will be held on July 1st, and she will be laid to rest at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield, Ohio. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in her name to Hospice of the Valley 9803 Sharrott Rd Poland, Ohio 44514 or to the ASPCA at ASPCA.org


Martha Lynn’s family would like to extend a sincere heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at Copeland Oaks, Sebring and the Hospice House, Poland for providing such kind and compassionate care to her.
