Loretta C. Paskert

Loretta C. Paskert, age 91, died Friday, November 20, 2020 at Holy Family Hospice in Parma, Ohio.

She was born in 1929 in Shelby, Ohio the daughter of the late Clement and Mae (Sutter) Metzger.

Loretta graduated in 1947 from Villa Maria High School in Villa Maria, Pennsylvania. After graduation from St. Vincent Charity Hospital School of Nursing, she worked her entire career there as a Surgical Nurse participating in many medical breakthroughs. Loretta was the go-to in the neighborhood to treat bumps, bruises and to remove stitches.

She was truly devoted to her faith and was an active member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Brooklyn, Ohio for over 60 years. In addition to attending Mass several times each week, she was part of the Women’s Guild and Widow’s Group.

Born a farm girl in Shelby, Loretta continued her love of vegetable and flower gardening at their barn red house in Brooklyn, Ohio and was even recognized as a Beautify Brooklyn Award Winner in 2015. Loretta was known for her homemade pies and an avid quilter, seamstress and crafter.

Loretta is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James Owen and is survived by her children, Carl (Cindy) Paskert of Parma, Kyle Van Why of Lakewood, Caroline (Dan) Flannery of Lakewood, Kurt (Michele Hatfield) Paskert of Broadview Heights; proud grandmother of 14; 1 great grandchild on the way; two brothers, Joe (Lynne) Metzger of Marion and Jim (Janice) Metzger of Chardon; one sister Lucy (Mark) Rietschlin of Shelby and sisters in law Alice Metzger and Pat Metzger.

She was preceded in death by eight siblings, Hubert Metzger, Carl Metzger, Leo Metzger, Fr. Clement Metzger, Nellie Young, John Metzger, Rosemary Keller, Sr. Celine (Agnes) Metzger and an infant brother, Carl Joseph Metzger.

The family wishes to thank and commend everyone at Mount Alverna Village, Ancora Memory Care and Holy Family Hospice for their care, compassion and love given to Loretta while residing there, affording her safety, comfort and dignity. They are truly doing God’s work.

Family and friends are welcome on Friday, November 27, 2020 at 10:00 am for a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas More Parish, 4170 N. Amber Dr., Brooklyn, OH 44144 where the large church with high ceilings will facilitate a safe celebration of Loretta’s life. Attendees are asked to wear a mask and practice safe, social distancing. Private interment to follow.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to St. Thomas More Parish.
