Linda Jean (Mullin) Dessauer

Linda Jean (Mullin) Dessauer passed away on June 28, 2023, at the Inn at Whitewood Village after a lengthy illness. Linda was born in Canton, Ohio October 17, 1941, to Rex and Gertrude (Mallon) Mullin. She was predeceased by husband Gustav Hans Dessauer in 1971. Linda graduated from Lehman High School in 1959, Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio in 1963 where she participated in a Junior Year Abroad program with Heidelberg University in Heidelberg Germany. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education and later earned a master’s degree in counseling from Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio. Linda’s teaching career spanned 35 years, most of it with the Plain Local School District where she made a huge impact on the lives of hundreds of high school students with special learning needs. She retired in 2006.

Linda loved both history and nature, was an avid reader, especially of historical fiction and nonfiction. She liked nothing better than listening to the birds that came to her bird feeder and working in her many flower gardens. While Linda loved all animals, she was particularly fond of her cats. Sweet Abi was with her until she passed.  Linda was a founding member and past Board member of the Plain Township Historical Society, a member of the Canton College Club, the Canton Garden Club and several book clubs. During her life she traveled extensively throughout Europe, South America, and the United States.

Linda is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Jane (Janie) and William (Bill) Garvin of Sykesville, Maryland; nephews, William J.(Wendy) Garvin of Frederick, Maryland, and Daniel R. (Rachel) Garvin of San Ramon, California; great nephew, Aaron M. Garvin of Mt Airy, Maryland; great nieces, Patricia R. (Brandon Hadden) Garvin of Hampstead, Maryland, Zoe A. Garvin and Emma H. Garvin of San Ramon California; and great- great nephew, Baxton B. Hadden of Hampstead Maryland; her close friend and honorary daughter, Eve Morgan.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 11 am with a calling hour one hour before the service at Church of the Lakes, 5944 Fulton Dr. NW, Canton, Ohio 44718.  There will be a luncheon following the service and all are invited to attend.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Canton Audubon Society, any animal rescue organization, or the Memorial Fund at the Church of the Lakes.
