John Martin Nimrichter

John Martin Nimrichter, age 88 of Cleveland, Ohio, passed away December 27, 2020.

John “Jack” was honorably discharged from the US Navy in July of 1955 after serving during the Korean War. He loved anything that had to do with cars, driving them, working on them, and buying them and always had endless stories about them. John’s other love was food. After the passing of his wife Alice, he became quite the “gourmet” chef, making most of his meals from scratch and designating certain days for certain foods for example, Monday was Chicken-Day, Wednesday was Hot Dog-Day, Thursday was Pork Chop-Day and Saturday Pizza-Day.

John was a quiet,  private man, unless he knew you well, or you were family. His great sense of humor became obvious once you got to know him. He had many funny stories to share over the years. He loved talking about his childhood, his sisters and brothers and the watermelon candy one of his neighbor ladies made for him. He loved talking about work and the antics that went on there. He loved talking about his Navy days and the tailor-made suits he had to leave in La Spezia Italy because he was called back to the ship he was on. He once went to Las Vegas and never put a cent in a slot machine but picked up a nickel from the floor and proclaimed his winnings!

John suffered great losses, his son Charles at age 6, his loving wife Alice at age 59 and his Eyesight. He persevered through it all. He wasn’t a man to show his emotions but still, you knew he loved you.

John had 6 children: John, Elaine (Tom), Susan, Joseph (Becky), Rebecca (Joe), and Charles (deceased) 7 grandchildren: Amanda (Shawn), Jeremy (Melisa), Evan, Jason (Hannah) Ian, Eliza (Talyn), Blazius, Mike (Taylor) and 4 great grandchildren Xavier, Danny, Vinny and Destiny.

Private, family services will be held at Lutheran Cemetery January 7th, 2020 at 11:00am.
