Gerald W. Lewis

Gerald W. Lewis, beloved husband of Martha L. Lewis, cherished father of daughters Gina Lewis-Thompson (spouse Harry Thompson), Cari Lewis-Harvanec (spouse Brian Harvanec). Adored Grandfather of Ashley & Erik Brindza, Andrew W. Huska, Alexander C. Huska, Grace Harvanec, Benjamin and Ali Harvanec. Beloved brother in law of Michael Yunis & Joe Taverna, George Yunis & Family, Nicholas Petti & the late Barbara Petti. Adored Uncle of Michelle Hensel & family, Yvette Petti & Loretta Kaercher. Respected Cousin of Peggy & Joseph Marche.

Gerald aka “Jerry” “Papa” was a dedicated Navy Seaman on the USS Cory 1964-1970. During his tour of duty, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He cherished his time in the service and had many stories to share over the years.

Jerry was known for his sense of humor and deep love for his family. His grandchildren were the bane of his existence, he taught them how to fish, golf, cook and clean a car until it sparkled. However what the children will most remember him for is the famous “high sign head pat”.  He would signal the grandkids from across the room, alerting them he was ready to leave the family gathering. The grandkids would laugh and signal him back ready to leave. He had a big heart and truly enjoyed volunteering many years at the Holy Family Hospice Center in Parma.  He would assist with anything needed in order to help the terminally ill patients.

Eight years ago he underwent open heart surgery shortly thereafter he suffered an unexpected stroke.  He fought the good fight until God called him home peacefully in the early morning on September 2, 2021.

God Bless you “Big Papa” please watch over us until we meet again. We love you forever and always.

Mass will be Friday, September 17, 2021, at 11:30 am at St. Mary of The Falls Church, 25615 Bagley Rd. Olmsted Falls, OH 44138.

Inurnment will be Monday, September 20, 2021, at 10:15 at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd. Seville, OH 44273
