Gerald “Gerry” Mcclellan

Gerald “Gerry” McClellan age 75, answered God’s call to join Him and passed away peacefully Thursday, April 14, 2022, after a long battle with Parkinson’s.  His life was filled with grace and love which he readily shared with everyone, especially his family to whom he was devoted.

A member of St.  Jacob’s Lutheran Church in North Canton for more than 35 years, he served as congregational president and on many committees. A military veteran, he served with the Marine Corps for three years during the Vietnam era.   He graduated from Canfield High School and attended Malone University.  Gerry was employed by Republic Steel for 47 years as a supervisor where he was greatly respected and loved by his fellow workers.  He also worked as a self-employed contractor in construction and concrete.

Gerry led a life of service, always willing to help others.  He loved coaching and working with youth and never missed his grandchildren’s games or recitals.  He got great joy working on the ballfields at GlenOak and Holly Hills. He was known to many as “coach” as he guided baseball teams from Little League through high school, as well as midget football.

He has been an inspiration to those around him as he has fought many battles with Parkinson’s, Lewy body, multiple surgeries, infections and injuries.  He always kept a positive spirit despite his many struggles.  Nothing got him down.

He joins his twin brother George in heaven, as well as his parents, George and Pauline McClellan.

Gerry is survived by his loving wife Bonnie (Koontz) of 52 years, his sons, Chris (Shannon) and Greg (Megan); three grandchildren, Kennedy, Parker, and Maggie; his younger brother, Geoff (Cindi).

A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church 1460 State St NE N Canton, Thursday, April 21, 2022.    The family will be greeting friends at 4:00 followed by a memorial service at 5:30. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Jacob’s Lutheran Church.  Condolences and special memories of Gerry can be shared with his loved ones online at
