Dr. Thomas Gretter died April 4

, 2017 surrounded by his family – his wife Joan, sons Craig (Gwynne), Brock (Abby), and Gavin (Elizabeth).  Six grandchildren – Katie and Gage, Henry and June, and Harper and Margaret – survive him.

He was born in Fargo, North Dakota to Albert C. and Ann B.  His siblings, Barbara Nelson and Gary, pre-deceased him.

Tom attended the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Pearlman School of Medicine.  He completed his residency at the University of Iowa.

Last year marked Tom’s 50

th

year working in the Neurology department at the Cleveland Clinic.

He was active in numerous national medical organizations, he served on the Medical Board of Ohio for many years, and he participated in various local medical groups.

Community Service included positions in Pepper Pike affairs, and a number of years on the Board of Trustees for the Judson Retirement Community.

Leisure time with his sons or friends spent fishing, playing tennis, and hunting were his favorite activities.

Tom expressed himself more by his actions than by his words.  A couple of lines from Edgar Guest’s “A Real Man” explain the many lives that he touched over the years:

Not many in a life you find

Whose deeds outrun their words so far

Than more than what they seem they are

The family suggests that memorials be sent to: Hospice of the Western Reserve at 17876 St Clair Avenue, Cleveland Ohio 44110, or the Gathering Place at 2330 Commerce Park, Cleveland Ohio 44122.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday April 30

th

from 2-4PM at The Country Club, 2825 Lander Road, Pepper Pike Ohio 44124.
