Concetta (Concettina) “Connie” Roberto

On May 20, 2022, Concetta (Concettina) “Connie” Roberto went home to be with the Lord. She passed away peacefully after a brief illness at the age of 91 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Connie is survived by her loving daughters Fannie Concetta Levkovitz (Cleveland), Anna Marie Lauranzon (Carlos) VA; grandchildren Michael Lauranzon (Olivia Cummings) PA, and Cristina Lucas (Stephen) VA; great granddaughters Addison and Emma Lucas (VA), and dozens of nieces and nephews throughout the country. She was predeceased by her parents, Fortunata and Giatano Roberto, who immigrated from Italy to America through Ellis Island; brothers Nicola, Salvatore, Rosario, Charlie, Joseph and a sister Rose.

Born in Cleveland, Connie actively supported her residential and surrounding communities. She led bible study classes, residential guide programs, supported neighborhood events and was an excellent seamstress. She was born with polio and endured a lifetime of surgeries and challenges but never engaged in self-pity. As a child, she went to the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation in Georgia where she met with and was encouraged by its founder, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. She credited that experience with helping to build her formidable spirit and led a life dedicated to daily exercise and nutrition. She wore a brace on one leg yet was fiercely independent and walked everywhere regardless of distance with her daughters in tow. In her later years when confined to a wheelchair, she opted for one that was manual so she could keep her arms toned. It was impossible to keep up with her.

Above all, Connie loved and served the Lord. She was a devout Christian with an unshakable faith, which sustained and filled her with gratitude for life. She defined the terms resilience and perseverance, had a compassionate spirit and appreciated the little things most take for granted. Connie was well loved by all who knew her, and always had a kind, encouraging word and blessing for everyone she met.
