Clifford Darrell Gillespie Sr.
Clifford Darrell Gillespie Sr., 62, of Cleveland, Ohio passed away unexpectedly in his home on March 12, 2018.
He was born on August 27, 1955 in Statesville, North Carolina to the late Glenn Edward Gillespie Sr. and Lillian Marie Cobbs (Gillespie). Lillian later relocated with Clifford and his other siblings to Cleveland Ohio, where she was married William Thompson, Sr. (Grandpa Jack). Clifford attended St. Edwards Parochial School and St. Joseph High School. Clifford Gillespie married Cynthia Agee (divorced) and had three children: Clifford Darrell Gillespie Jr, Sherveriria Harris (Gillespie) and Jessica Gillespie.
Clifford enlisted in the United States Armed Forces in 1979. He was an M-15 rifle expert, he received a medal of honor for good conduct and was discharged honorably from active duty in 1983. He later served several years in the Army Reserves. Clifford was employed at Shaia’s Parking for the last 13 years, where he faithfully never missed one day of work. He was planning to retire this year after his 63rd birthday.
Clifford has a love for his family (especially his mom Lillian), cooking and most of all music. He was an accomplished musician, he played for several local cover bands throughout the years and most notably with the house band for several plays at the Cleveland Play House Theater. He never lost his love and skill for music and was even playing in a local band again before his untimely death. Clifford will be greatly missed, but the funky chords he played on his bass guitar will live on in our hearts and minds forever.
Clifford is survived by his mother, Lillian Marie Thompson. His three children, Clifford Darrell Gillespie Jr., Sherveriria and Dimetrius Harris Sr, and Jessica Marie Gillespie. His siblings William Thompson Jr., Glenn E. Gillespie Jr., Mary Williams, Cheryl Thompson, and Michael Gillespie. Clifford has 12 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, and 3 great-grandchildren. Clifford leaves behind a host of other family members and dear friends.
Clifford is preceded in death by his fathers Glenn Edward Gillespie Sr. and Willam Thompson Sr. His siblings Sophia Johnson and Daniel Thompson.
The Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am on March 27, 2018, at
Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4341 E 131st St, Garfield Heights, OH 44105

Internment will be at 2:30pm on March 27, 2018 at
Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, OH 44273
