Beverly Ann (Carpenter) Starner, 86, of Millersburg, passed away October 2, 2023 with her loving husband of 63 years, Bob, by her side at home after an extended illness. Beverly was born on July 21,1937 to Mildred and Walter Carpenter. Beverly graduated from Killbuck High School in 1955. After graduation she worked as the Killbuck School Secretary for Mr. Weltmer and from there went to work at the county superintendent’s office for D.C Egger. During this time, she was a member of the Holmes County Rural Youth, where she met her husband, Robert Starner on July 3,1960.
Starting in 1972 with 3 children of their own, Bob and Beverly became foster parents. Over the years they cared for 18 different children. Many of their children were involved in 4-H, Sewing Club and Baby Beef Club. During this time Beverly also substituted as a librarian for West Holmes.
From 1987-1997 they owned and operated, with their family, a 100-sow hog operation. In 1989, Beverly also began working as a teacher aid for the Holmes County Training Center for children with special needs until she retired in 2005.
Beverly is survived by her husband Robert and her children: Jody (Mark)Payne, Sharry Starner (Rich Mairs), Chris Starner, all of Wooster, Robby Starner of Millersburg and Donnie Starner of Austintown; five grandchildren, Bryce and Macy Payne, Zora and Lexy Starner, Jacob Starner; brothers, Junior Carpenter and Jack Carpenter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mildred Carpenter, her sister, Betty (Carpenter) Nelson, and a niece, Becky Martin.
Heritage Cremation and Burial Society is assisting the family with arrangements. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
